Pandemic lends modern twist to French vintage fashion sales

PARIS (Reuters) – In Artcurial’s auction house overlooking the shuttered boutiques of the Champs Elysees avenue in Paris, vintage fashion expert Clara Vivien is overseeing the sale of hundreds of Chanel jackets, shoes and jewelled accessories – all online.

Paris may be the world’s fashion capital, but a third COVID-19 lockdown is once again sending lovers of luxury who have time to spare and money to spend on to their screens in search of a the next vintage Chanel dress or Hermes handbag.

Vintage was already enjoying a revival, Vivien said, driven by a growing discomfort with “fast fashion” among consumers and increasing environmental awareness. But the pandemic shifted more of it online.

“Vintage is exploding on the second-hand market,” Vivien said. “People can’t walk into boutiques and so shop at online auctions.”

Handbags sell particularly well. “People who bought a Chanel or a Hermes bag today delight in the

Tucker’s efforts to annex area near Northlake Mall, remove term limits stall out

Tucker Mayor Frank Auman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he was surprised neither piece of legislation gained traction. He added that the DeKalb delegations know what the city wants and encourages them to revisit both ideas next legislative session.

Annexation

Since Tucker was chartered in 2015, the city has annexed properties, but it’s always done so based on public participation — not legislative approval.

In February, the city passed a resolution to ask the Legislature to annex 22 parcels to help alleviate service issues, such as land planning and roadway maintenance.

“It’s a real problem to get service delivery in there, which is really what cities are for, right,” Auman said.

Tucker is asking state leaders to allow the city to annex the area of unincorporated DeKalb that is colored orange on this map. The area is nearly surrounded by Tucker's current city limits.

Polish teen’s fake beauty site helps lockdown abuse victims

Worried about reports of rising domestic violence during lockdown, Polish teen Krysia Paszko set up a website purporting to be a cosmetics shop that actually offers victims covert help.

“I was inspired by this French idea, where by going to the pharmacy and asking for the number 19 mask, you could signal that you were a victim of abuse,” the Warsaw high school student told AFP.

The 18-year-old decided that Poland could also use some kind of code during the pandemic, when families have been cooped up together under stress, with less privacy and more abuse.

During the first lockdown that began in March last year, the Centre for Women’s Rights, a Polish NGO, observed a 50-percent increase in calls to its domestic violence hotline.

The World Health Organization also reported a surge in Europe.

Paszko created the Facebook page Rumianki i Bratki (Chamomiles and Pansies) in April 2020.

Sustainability Comes At a Cost. Fashion Isn’t Paying. | BoF Professional, News & Analysis

Key Insights

  • The BoF Sustainability Index tracks fashion’s progress towards ambitious sustainability targets for the coming decade. It examines public disclosures to rigorously benchmark performance and enable like-for-like comparisons at 15 of fashion’s largest companies.

  • The Index found that while fashion companies are speaking about sustainability more than ever before, actions are lagging public commitments. The average overall score of the companies assessed was just 36 out of a possible 100, with significant disparities between engagement and action.

  • Information about how companies are planning for the substantial investments required to meet sustainability goals emerged as a significant blind spot, with companies failing to match bold ambitions with details of how they plan to pay for them.

Last month Bangladesh-based denim manufacturer Mostafiz Uddin asked some of his customers for help securing a $3 million loan he said he needed to pay for upgrades that would allow him to operate more

Body Cosmetics of Beverly Hills introduces gluteal enhancement | News

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., April 1, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Body Cosmetics of Beverly Hills, a leading provider of cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical treatments, is proud to be one of a small number of practices in Southern California offering gluteal enhancement using silicone buttock implants. For a woman or man considering enhancing the contour of the buttock, silicone buttock implants can present distinct advantages over Brazilian butt-lift (BBL).

“As a primary treatment, silicone implants are an excellent option for the person who is looking to enhance the shape of their buttocks,” says board-certified surgeon Joseph Yadegar, MD, FRCS, FACS, of Body Cosmetics. “This is very similar to a breast implant, and can be placed safely deep within the tissues of the buttock.”

For some patients, buttock implants may be the only option. The traditional BBL is for people who have enough fat for transfer to the buttocks, but for
