Opened, then idled, makeup a microbial risk

WASHINGTON — When one of Noëlle Sherber’s patients came to see her several months ago, the dermatologist noticed that the woman had an eye infection. It was a small sty and easily treatable, but Sherber still wanted to know what caused it.

Sherber learned that the patient, who had been at home since mid-March, had recently put on a full face of makeup using products that largely had sat untouched for months after she, like many others, scaled back her usual beauty regimen during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I asked, ‘How old is your mascara? Your eyeliner?’” said Sherber, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and co-founder of Sherber and Rad. The woman, Sherber noted, had not bought new cosmetics in a while and seemed to think that because she was not using her eye makeup often that it “extended the life span of the product.”

‘Like a Boss,’ ‘Wonder Woman 1984’

Wisconsin was all over the movies, big screen and small, in 2020 — even when it wasn’t really Wisconsin.

Jon Stewart came to Wisconsin to research his purple-state comedy “Irresistible,” about out-of-town political operatives turning a fictitious Wisconsin town’s mayoral race into an all-out war. But the movie, which debuted this summer, was shot entirely in … Georgia.

“Irresistible,” starring Steve Carell and Rose Byrne, played in only a handful of theaters when it debuted this summer, smack in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic that left a lot of screens dark. But, in what was a sign of things to come, it also was available on demand — a release strategy that we’ll see more of going into 2021.

In fact, the “biggest” movie opening of the pandemic was a movie available both in theaters and on streaming: “Wonder Woman 1984,” which pulled in an estimated $16.7 million Christmas

Inside Jennifer Lopez’s Chaotic Inauguration Week, From Sex Cannibals and Botox to Biden

This is a preview of our pop culture newsletter The Daily Beast’s Obsessed, written by senior entertainment reporter Kevin Fallon. To receive the full newsletter in your inbox each week, sign up for it here.

  • Congrats, you’re old.
  • J. Lo’s beautifully chaotic week.
  • The movie performance I can’t stop thinking about.
  • Pour one out for “Melania.”
  • The Bernie memes, obviously.

It’s been an eventful week for Jennifer Lopez. Granted, this is J. Lo. I would venture that her typical week boasts more highlights for the bullet-point recap than most, but even by that standard, it was a big one for the Most Egregiously Snubbed Oscar Contender in Cinema History. (I am contractually obligated as a gay to bring up that Hustlers slight in a public forum at least once a month in perpetuity.)

To begin with, she narrowly escaped a harrowing encounter with an alleged sex cannibal. Heavens!

Proving that Carol does not need the help of make-up to radiate beauty, she gave fans a look at her natural appearance in a gorgeous selfie snapped outside.

The Bachelor’s ‘Queen’ Victoria Larson Seemingly Reacts to Mugshot

Taking the high road? Bachelor season 25 contestant “Queen” Victoria Larson shared a cryptic quote after her 2012 mugshot resurfaced earlier this week.

“Every saint has a past & every sinner has a future. John 8: 7,” the reality star, 28, captioned a Friday, January 22, Instagram photo, which showed her posing at the beach in a white cardigan.

Us Weekly confirmed that Larson was arrested in Tallahassee, Florida, in July 2012 for stealing more than $250 worth of merchandise from a Publix grocery store. According to the arrest report, she placed several items in a shopping cart that she took to the checkout section of the store but then put the products, including food and cosmetics, in a reusable shopping bag.
