Lab Grown Or Natural Diamonds? The Choice Is Getting Clearer For Consumers And Retailers

Valentine’s Day falls nearly smack dab in the middle of the peak period for diamond jewelry sales, which extends from the December holiday season when about 20% of engagements occur through Mother’s Day, this year on May 9.

By all accounts Holiday 2020 was a strong one for diamond jewelry sales, especially for lab-grown diamonds (LGD), which offer shoppers bigger stones for less money.

When it comes to buying diamonds, those are the two factors that matter most. For men, the cost of a diamond takes precedence in the purchase decision for an engagement ring, followed by the design. For women, it’s design first followed by the carat size, which goes hand-in-hand with cost. And for both men and women the quality of the diamond comes in third, according to a survey by Beyond4Cs.

Sweet Hearts: Parks & Rec alters Valentine’s observance | News

VALDOSTA – Not able to host its Valentine’s Day social for its clients with special needs, the parks and rec authority found an alternative.

Annually, the therapeutics department of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority hosts a social for the Young Adult Club, a program that was started more than 15 years ago for teenagers and adults with special needs.

The social takes place the second Thursday of February.

Due to the pandemic, the authority adjusted its yearly observance by donating Valentine’s Day gift bags to club members Thursday. The recipients retrieved the bags from the authority’s main office.

“We have missed our YAC members and wanted to let them know that they are loved,” Tammy Crosby, therapeutics coordinator, said. “Even through this pandemic, we are doing everything we can to stay engaged and provide fun activities.”

She said she hand wrote 150 post cards for club members. The

Restaurants, shops coming, going, moving in Oakland County

A craft studio, a cheesesteak joint and a gastropub with a quirky name are among the new or soon-to-be-open restaurants and shops in cities across southeast Oakland County.

A do-it-yourself makers studio will offer string art, canvas painting, jewelry-making, tie-dyeing — and even a Jackson Pollock-inspired Splatter Room.

“You can get in and get messy. It’s almost art as an extreme sport,” said Jenna Hance, franchise owner of Pinspiration Berkley.

The Pinterest-inspired studio is scheduled to open this fall at 2733 Coolidge Highway. Customers will be able to choose from dozens of crafts, with the studio providing all the supplies and tools needed to make the projects come to life. There will be a dedicated room for parties and private get-togethers.

Hance was working on a graduate school project about finding meaningful work when she saw a Facebook ad from Pinspiration that sought a franchisee in the area.
