Rihanna’s pressing pause on Fenty fashion

Fenty, under the leadership of its savant Creative Director Rihanna, has in its three year lifespan become an absolute powerhouse. From leading diversity in the world of cosmetics with Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin, to revolutionising runway presentations with Savage X Fenty lingerie, Rihanna made the rest of the industry take a long, hard look at itself. Expanding further into fashion with a ready-to-wear line in 2019, Fenty made history as the first LVMH-backed fashion venture led by a woman of colour. However, in a statement to WWD today, Rihanna and LVMH have announced that Fenty — in fashion form, at least — will be closing its doors for the foreseeable future. 

“Rihanna and LVMH have jointly made the decision to put on hold the RTW activity, based in Europe, pending better conditions,” the statement said. Although specific reasons have not been detailed, the current coronavirus pandemic

Rihanna officially launches Fenty Skin collection

On Friday, Rihanna released her Fenty Skin collection, which will no doubt delight fans who have been waiting for it. The collection includes a Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All Cleanser, Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum, and a Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen.

“We made finding a new skincare routine easy with these 2-in-1 multitasking products in a simple 3-step routine— the FENTY SKIN START’RS will brighten skin, snatch pores, and target dark spots—plus they’re clinically tested, clean, vegan, AND earth-conscious,” the new brand captioned a photo that included products.

In a press release, it was revealed that amazing skin hasn’t always come easy for Rihanna. As a teenager, she was overwhelmed by all of the skincare options out there and even tried a product that discolored her skin, which scared her from trying anything else for a long time.

News broke last week, when the singer shared a sneak-peek with her 85 million Instagram followers. “Ima try my best to be humble about this but @ fentyskin is coming July 31st,” the Bajan star wrote, sharing a link for fans to sign up for early access on July 29.
