One woman, who is vegan, was hoping to enjoy a nice meal out with her family – but her dietary requirements didn’t sit well with the restaurant staff.

The woman asked which meals were vegan and the waiter returned with a menu which had suitable options circled

Lisa Cooney, from Edinburgh, was dining at Ravelston House in
Musselburgh and politely asked which menu options were vegan friendly.

But to her horror, when being handed a menu with suitable options circled, a very “insulting” hand-written note fell to the ground, which had been attached to it.

According to Edinburgh Live, the note read “The vegan sh*** has been circled,” which left Lisa feeling “”extremely disappointed” by the experience..

She said: “I asked what options were vegan and the barman said he would ask the chef.

This note was attached the menu and had fallen on the ground, which left Lisa fuming

“He came back with the menu which had the items circled and he put the note on the bar, it fell from the bar and my dad picked it up and showed it to me.

“When I first read it I was in disbelief, then I was angry and upset, it’s insulting and so unprofessional, also the total disregard for any potential allergy is a worry.”

Lisa was left fuming and raised her concern with the staff.

She said: “For a chef to have that mentality is quite shocking. I went and spoke to the manager after my family had finished their meal, he apologised and agreed the note wasn’t acceptable.”

After speaking to staff, Lisa added that an assistant manager had
spoken to her as they left, and was “much more understanding” to the
situation.
